Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title copolymer excellent in impact resistance, buckling strength, environmental stress cracking resistance and moldability, by copolymerizing ethylene with a 3-20C alpha-olefin. CONSTITUTION:99.7-98.5wt.% ethylene and 0.3-1.5wt.% 3-20C alpha-olefin are copolymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising a solid catalyst component containing at least Mg, Ti, Zr, Al and halogen, and an organic Al compound under ordinary pressure-100atm. at 20-200 deg.C to produce an ethylene copolymer having an intrinsic viscosity of 1.2-1.8dl/g, a density of 0.956-0.964g/cm<3>, a high-shear flow rate of 500-1,500sec<-1>, a molecular weight distribution in which a weight fraction having a weight-average molecular weight of 10<6> or above is 4wt.% or below and a weight fraction having 1 weight-average molecular weight of 10<4> or below is 14wt.% or below, an extent of a low molecular-weight component branching of 0.2 or below and an extent of a high molecular-weight component branching of 0.14 or above.
