Abstract

PURPOSE:To make accurate the returning position of a recording paper at the time of reverse rotation and prevent color misregistering from occurring at the time of superposition of coloring agents, by providing at least one of a feed quantity-detecting roller and a pressure roller with a torque-applying means for applying a rotating torque for energizing the recording paper in the direction of a recording paper payout source. CONSTITUTION:Thermal transfer in the first color onto a first recording surface of a recording paper 31 is started, simultaneously when a counter 38 is reset to zero in response to a signal from a controlling part 39. Output pulses from a rotary encoder 37, which outputs the pulses according to a rotating quantity of a feed quantity- detecting roller 33 rotated by the paper 31, are counted up by the counter 38. When printing in the first color is finished, a thermal head 4 is separated from a platen roller 3, a coloring agent area of the first color of an ink sheet 10 is taken up on an ink sheet take-up roll 9, and the paper 31 is returned to the start position of the printing in the first color, by reverse rotation of the platen roller 3. In the returning of the paper, the reverse rotation of the platen roller 3 is stopped by a control signal from the controlling part 39 when the count on the counter 38 is reduced to zero, whereby the paper 31 is accurately returned to the printing-starting position.
