Abstract
PURPOSE: To make more precise control of air fuel ratio, possible by homogenizing exhaust gas flow in a prior stage of a sensor relating to an engine equipped with an exhaust gas catalyst contained in the exhaust gas system in which the air fuel ratio is controlled by outputs from a Lambda sensor disposed up- stream side of the catalyst. CONSTITUTION: This invention relates to a multi-cylinder gasoline engine having an adjustable exhaust gas catalyst. In order to improve the behaviors of exhaust gas and minimize their scatter variability, an exhaust gas flow is constructed in such a way as to homogenize it up-stream side of a Lambda sensor. For example, in front of the Lambda sensor, the exhaust gas flow is made to be conducted by way of a cut-in piece which generates turbulence, or the exhaust gas flow in front of the Lambda sensor, is made to be conducted passing through metallic meshes of a net, with a mesh of 2-5 mm in size.
