Abstract
PURPOSE:To economically and efficiently produce aldehyde ketones or alcohols without requiring a coenzyme, by using a specific microorganism, belonging to the genus Clostridium and having the ability to oxidize alcohols and reduce the aldehyde.ketones. CONSTITUTION:Clostridium.thermosaccharolyticum 86EA-1 (FERM P-9397) which is a short bacillus, having properties of motility, indefinite Gram staining with endospores, growing at 42-70 deg.C, 60 deg.C optimum temperature, etc., is anaerobically cultivated at pH6.5-7.5 and 55-62 deg.C for 8-18hr using an RCM culture medium, preferably fructose culture medium, etc., and the microbial cells are collected and suspended in a tris buffer solution, etc., and brought into contact with a alcohols having at least 2 carbon atoms to produce aldehyde.ketones. When the microbial cell suspension is brought into contact with aldehydes or ketones, alcohols are obtained.
