Abstract

PURPOSE:To preserve nematodes living in insects in high survival ratio and in high insecticidal power and to efficiently use in occurrence of insect pests, by using a nematode living in insect pests, capable of destroying insect pests such as defoliator, borer or soil insect pest as a medium for sphagnum. CONSTITUTION:Water is sufficiently absorbed in sphagnum (obtained by collecting naturally living sphagnum or artificially cultivated sphagnum and drying), from which supersaturated water is removed. The sphagnum is packed into a glass container, polyester container, polyethylene bag or polyvinyl chloride bag, into which nematodes belonging to the genus Stelnernema or Heterorhabditis of the order Phabdittida suspended in a small amount of water are added and the nematodes are preserved at 2-8 deg.C constant temperature condition. By using this method, nematodes living in insects, living things, can be extremely readily utilized as biological control method.
