Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the initial position of a type wheel efficiently by providing a switching member to act on the projecting part of the type wheel and also a control part which roughly detects the projecting part at high speed and later, allows a type wheel motor to slow down only immediately before the projecting part. CONSTITUTION:When the initial position of a type wheel 6 is detected, a control part 12 causes a stepping motor 11 for rotary driving of the type wheel 6 by means of the first frequency, and checks a change in a switching part 9 to be activated by a projecting part 6a provided on the type wheel 6 each time the motor rotates by one step. Next, after detection of the change in the switching part 9, the motor 11 is caused to rotate by a required number of steps under open control using the second frequency. After this, the motor 11 is caused to rotate using the third frequency, and the change in the switching part 9 is checked by the control part every time the motor rotates by one step. Thus it is possible to detect the initial position of the type wheel 6 without any step-out sound of the motor 11 by detection of a change in the switching part 9 under a state where the motor 11 is allowed to rotate by means of the third frequency.
