Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a processed image of high quality by removing a segment having its end point on a contour extracted image and shorter than a prescribed length as noise and a loop pattern in which the area of a minimum circumscribed rectangle is less than a prescribed value as noise. CONSTITUTION:A binary image inputted through an image input device 4 is stored in an image RAM 6 and a CPU 5 executes the contour extracting processing and thinning processing of the binary image. The length of a segment continuing one picture element or more in one picture element width is found out by tracing the segment from its end point, and when the length is shorter than a prescribed value, the segment is removed as noise. In case of a loop-like pattern, its minimum circumscribed rectangle is found out by tracking the contour of the pattern from its start point, and when the area of the rectangle is less than the prescribed value, the pattern is removed as noise. Consequently, the increment of the noise data can be suppressed and image data of high quality can be obtained.
