Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce singly dispersed fine gold particles having a narrow particle size distribution by adding a nonionic surfactant to an aq. soln. contg. iodoauric acid ions and by further adding alkali hydroxide to the aq. soln. to decompose gold iodide.
CONSTITUTION: A nonionic surfactant such as 'ETHOMID(R)' is added to an aq. soln. contg. iodoauric acid ions prepd. by dissolving gold iodide in an aq. potassium iodide soln. or by other method. Alkali hydroxide is then added to the aq. soln. to decompose gold iodide. The proper concn. of the alkali hydroxide is about 0.1W6N. The pref. reaction temp. is about 20W70°C and the particle size of formed particles can be controlled by changing the temp. condition. The reaction is terminated at ≥about 12.5, preferably ≥about 13 pH. thus, singly dispersed fine gold particles of ≤several μm particle size are obtd.
