Abstract

PURPOSE:To allow the fine and precise positioning of a machining device by providing a static pressure bearing supporting X, Y sliders, slider driving linear motors, and a noncontact type linear scale for slider position detection. CONSTITUTION:A wire electrode 15 delivered from a bobbin 16 is supported by an upper wire guide 18 and a lower wire guide 19 across a work 14 and wound by a recovery roller 22 and discarded in a wire recovery box. The electric power is fed to the wire electrode 15 and the work 14 from a machining electrode 25, and the work 14 is machined. When X, Y transit coordinate values are directed from an NC device, an X slider 12 and a Y slider 7 are linearly moved by linear motors 34, 36 respectively, their positions are detected by a linear scale 35, the X, Y sliders 12, 7 are correctly positioned as directed by the NC device, and the work 14 is machined into the desired shape.
