CONSTITUTION:An ethylene polymer having a weight-average MW of 150,000-300,000, a weight-average MW to number-average MW ratio >=10 and a density >=0.935g/cm<3> is prepared. A polymer composition based on this ethylene polymer and optionally containing a low-MW polyethylene, an antioxidant, a filler, etc. is stretched at a stretch ratio of 1.1-4 to obtain the purpose polyethylene film of a density >=0.93g/cm<3>. This polyethylene film can be suitably used by itself or in the form of a laminate with paper, aluminum foil or other synthetic resin as a packaging material for various foods, drugs, etc.
