Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title dispersion excellent in the control of bleeding of an ultraviolet absorber and having retentivity of its effect, by using a nonionic emulsifier of a specified HLB in the polymerization of a radical- polymerizable monomer containing an ultraviolet absorber. CONSTITUTION:A nonionic emulsifier of an HLB>=15 [e.g., polyoxyethylene octylphenyl ether (HLB of 17.9)] is used during or after the polymerization of a radical-polymerizable monomer (e.g., a monomer mixture comprising styrene/methyl methacrylate/ethyl methacrylate, divinylbenzene/acrylic acid) containing an ultraviolet absorber (e.g., hydroxyphenylbenzotriazole ultraviolet absorber). In this way, a dispersion of a non-film-forming polymer which can control the bleeding of the ultraviolet absorber entrapped and immobilized in the obtained polymer by the added nonionic emulsifier of an HLB>=15 and which has still higher retentivity of an effect of the ultraviolet absorber can be obtained.
