Abstract
PURPOSE: To utilize boron resources effectively by a method wherein a neutron absorber provided for some control rod assemblies is formed of boron carbide whose content of boron 10 is lower than the content of boron 10 in natural boron.
CONSTITUTION: The core of a fast breeder reactor is formed by a number of fuel assemblies 18 provided with nuclear fuel such as uranium and by a number of control rod assemblies 19 provided with neutron absorbers formed of boron carbide. On the occasion, the neutron absorber provided at least for some control rod assemblies 19 out of a number of them is formed of the boron carbide whose content of boron 10 is lower than that of boron 10 in natural boron. Depleted boron which has been hard to use for a reactor heretofore can be used thereby efficiently for the control of the reactor. By this constitution, boron resources are utilized effectively.
