Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a stable inner olefin by isomerization of an olefin using, as a catalyst, solid base consisting of an alkali hydride and an alumina previously treated with an alkali metal carbonate or aluminate. CONSTITUTION:When an olefin such as 5-vinyl-2-norbornene is isomerized into a stable inner olefin such as 5-ethylidene-5-norbornene, a solid base which is prepared by heating an alkali metal hydride along with an alumina (of a high surface area) previously treated with an alkali metal carbonate or aluminate salt, in an inert gas atmosphere at 200-450 deg.C. The catalyst has high isomerization ability, even without aid of a cocatalyst to effect high efficient isomerization, thus can achieve high efficient isomerization with a reduced amount of the catalyst, almost without production of by-products such as polymers.
