Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a refractory material having excellent corrosion resistance against a halogen-based flux, especially a flux for the treatment of noble metals, by using a silicon nitride ceramic having an open pore ratio lower than a specific level as a component of the material. CONSTITUTION:The objective refractory material is composed of a silicon nitride ceramic having an open pore ratio of <=20%. The open pore ratio of the silicon nitride ceramic is restricted to <=20% by the following reason. In a porous material having an open pore ratio of higher than the above limit, the silicon nitride is liable to be oxidized in air and is reacted with a fluoride flux to form a glass. Accordingly, the formed glass enters into the open pore of the silicon nitride and breakage of the material takes place after repeated use by the difference of thermal expansion between the glass and the reacted sintered silicon nitride.
