PURPOSE:To realize the mixed use of magnetic disk devices of different types by reading out the identification data or the information data on those magnetic disk devices for control of them. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic disk device 14 containing the device identification data 16 set previously is connected to a CPU 11 together with the magnetic disk devices 15 and 15. The device identification data 12 on both devices 13 and 15 are previously set within a system. Then the CPu 11 reads the data 16 out of the device 14 and at the same time reads the information on both devices 13 and 15 out of those data 12 respectively.
