Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently remove zinc particularly from the waste liquid containing zinc and ammonia by adding an alkali metal phosphate to zinc ion containing waste liquid and adjusting the pH of the waste liquid near the neutral value. CONSTITUTION:An alkali metal phosphate is added to zinc ion containing waste liquid such as acidic zinc plating waste liquid and also the pH of the waste liquid is adjusted near the neutral value, preferably to a value within 6.4-8.5, thereby forming and precipitating zinc phosphate. This precipitation is then removed therefrom by filtration or other methods to remove zinc from the waste liquid. As the alkali metal phosphate, the sodium or potassium salt of an phosphoric acid, e.g. sodium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium monohydrogen phosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and potassium monohydrogen phosphate, may be used.
