Abstract

PURPOSE:To implement the satisfactory, continuous operation of an electric melting furnace for a long period of time by bringing the furnace in an inclined position according to the progressive wear of the upper face of a weir taking place to thereby hold constant vertically the relative positional relationship between the ridge of the weir and the lower end face of an unmolten substance obstruction member. CONSTITUTION:An electric melting furnace 1 is provided with a slag opening 6 defined by a weir 8 rising from the extremely of a melt zone 1a and an unmolten substance obstruction member 9 extending vertically downwardly into the melt zone 1a inwardly of the weir 8. As the progressive wear of the ridge 8a of the weir 8 takes place, the furnace 1 is brought in an inclined position according to the wear amount, whereby the vertical relative positional relationship between the ridge 8a of the weir 8 and the lower end face of the unmolten substance obstruction member 9 is held constant. This permits a continuous operation of the furnace in the case of worn weir, ensuring a satisfactory operation of the furnace for a long period of time.
