Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve riding sensation and drive stability, by a method wherein, in a title device for an automobile, when a relative displacement between a car body and wheels is in a given range from a neutral position, a damping force is set to a low value, and when it exceeds given amplitude, a damping force is set to a high value at least during a time for which a displacement direction is extended to a neutral position. CONSTITUTION:A load sensor, mounted to each of shock absorbers 41, 43, 45, and 47, detects a load exerted on a car body 21 or wheels 1, 3, 5, and 7 and a detecting result is inputted to a control circuit 120. The control circuit 120 computes a relative displacement between each wheel and a car body by means of a detecting signal from the load sensor. When the relative displacement is in a range of a given displacement from a neutral position, each shock absorber is controlled to a low damping force. During vibration in which the relative displacement exceeds given amplitude from a neutral position, the shock absorber is controlled to a high damping force at least during a displacement period in which a displacement direction extends toward a neutral position. This constitution enables improvement of riding sensation and drive stability.
