Abstract

PURPOSE:To put a stable optical switch having minimal insertion loss into the practical use by abutting the end surface of an input side ferrule on that of an output side ferrule in a split sleeve and replacing an output side ferrule which is to be inserted. CONSTITUTION:Two optical fibers on the input side and two optical fibers on the output side abut on each other in sleeves 5 and 6 with the aid of ferrules on the both end parts. The input side and the output side are fixed to the sleeve and a ferrule holder 10, respectively. The energizing of a ferrule inserting and removing means 20 attracts the holder 10 to pull out the output side ferrule. In this state, when the rotating magnetic fields of a ferrule rotating means 30 are sequentially conducted, the holder 10 rotates by 180 deg.. When the energizing of the means 20 is stopped, the holder 10 returns to its original position due to the action of a spring, and the connection of the optical fiber is switched. Thus the stable optical switch having minimal insertion loss can be obtained.
