Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the recording wavelength of a magnetic recording element by a construction wherein a rotation detecting mechanism consisting of a magnetic sensor and the magnetic recording element is provided on the inner and outer wheels of a rolling bearing supporting a rotating shaft of a motor or the like. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording element 8 is provided on an inner wheel 1 rotating integrally with a rotating shaft 7, while a magnetic sensor 9 is provided on an outer wheel 2 oppositely to said magnetic recording element 8, and thereby a rolling bearing 5 itself, which supports the rotating shaft 7, is made to have a rotation detecting mechanism. By this construction, a gap length alphabetween the magnetic recording element 8 and the magnetic sensor 9 is prevented from undergoing the effect of runout of the rotating shaft 7, and a change in the gap length alpha becomes very small, thus enabling the increase of a resolution. Since the bearing itself operates as a rotation detecting device; besides, a moment of inertia is small, and thus the device can be made small in size.
