Abstract

PURPOSE:To stably obtain a signal having weatherability, high sensitivity and good quality, by forming a recording layer from tellurium, selenium, nitrogen and at least one element selected from a group consisting of nickel, cobalt and iron. CONSTITUTION:In an optical recording medium having a recording layer partially and selectively removed by laser beam to record data, the recording layer consists of tellurium, selenium, nitrogen and at least one element selected from a group consisting of nickel, cobalt and iron. By constituting the main components of the recording layer of tellirium, selenium and nitrogen, a compound of nitrogen and chalcogen elements is formed in the layer and the formation of small holes being the initial stage of hole forming recording can be performed by the irradiation with laser beam having relatively weak power and, therefore, an optical recording medium having good weatherability and high sensitivity and obtaining a good quality signal is obtained. By adding at least one element selected from a group consisting of nickel, cobalt and iron to tellurium, selenium and nitrogen, a pit is formed without being largely expanded and a good recording and regenerating characteristic is stably obtained.
