Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently determine a pulse position and to improve the tone by reducing the number of quantized bits at the positions of a starting predetermined number of pulses less than the number of quantized bits at the positions of remaining pulses by a means which quantizes positions where multipulses supplied to a linear predictive filter rises. CONSTITUTION: This encoder is equipped with a pulse search circuit 6 as a pulse search means which determines the time positions and sizes of specified plural pulses according to autocorrelation found by a 2nd arithmetic means autocorrelation arithmetic circuit 5 and actocorrelation found by an autocorrelation arithmetic circuit 4 as a 3rd arithmetic means, and an encoding circuit 9 as an encoding means having a quantizing means which sets the number of bits for quantizing the distance between pulses in a starting time area with specified plural pulses less than the number of bits for quantizing the distance between pulses in a time area following the said time area and quantizes the distance between pulses determined by the pulse search means 6 with a specified number of bits. Consequently, the number of pulses that is encoded with a limited number of bits is increased, so the tone of an encoding voice is improved.
