Abstract

PURPOSE:To make mass production by forming a conductive polymer layer by an electrolytic polymn. reaction on the surface of a conductive base body, then covering the conductive polymer layer by an electrolysis with a catalyst layer which develops a catalyst function to the reduction reaction of a prescribed gas. CONSTITUTION:For example, a BPG electrode is formed by cutting out a circular column from the plate of basal plate pyrolytic graphite and adhering a lead wire 4 to the base 1a thereof, then inserting the base body into a 'Teflon(R)' tube 5 and insulating the tube with an insulating adhesive agent 7. The electrolysis is then effected by using a 3-electrode type cell with the above- mentioned electrode as a working electrode and a platinum electrode as a counter electrode and using an acetonitrile soln. as an electrolyte to form the conductive polymer layer 2. The auxiliary catalyst layer 8 is thereafter formed by effecting the electrolysis using an aq. soln. contg. silver nitrate as the electrolyte. A rhenium layer is further formed as the catalyst layer 3 by effecting the electrolysis using an aq. soln. contg. rhenium nitrate as an electrolyte. The sensor for gaseous CO2 is thereby produced.
