Abstract
PURPOSE:To precisely detect a focus even if the contrast of an object is low by providing a means detecting parts having high correlation degrees based on the maximum and minimum values of the change rate of comparison data. CONSTITUTION:The optical axis of a photographing lens is held with a picture signal forming means 20, which converts 1st and 2nd images formed of fluxes of the object passing by the 1st and 2nd parts of the photographing lens into picture signals. Next, a correlation detecting means 30 detects the correlation of the two images by means of the picture signals, and a defocus amount operating means 40 detects the focus position of the photographing lens based on the correlation. The correlation detecting means 30 obtains the maximum value of the change rate of the comparison data and its minimum value, and detects a part with the highest correation degree among the two images based on said two values. Thus, even if the contrast of the object is low, a focus is precisely detected.
