Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the coding time by switching plural coders sequentially in the unit of K lines so as to attain parallel simultaneous operation of plural coders and simultaneous coding of a picture reader. CONSTITUTION:The picture information read by a picture reader 1 is stored in a frame memory 2. Then a control circuit 5 recognizes in advance a bit number of a main scanning line, coding system and a coding parameter and gives a signal to a coder 3 and a coder 4 sequentially switchingly from the frame memory 2 in the unit of blocks takes as linear coded lines specified by the K parameter to apply coding. That is, in case of the K parameter IV, the picture information of the 1st IV lines is given to the coder 3 and that of the succeeding IV lines is given to the coder 4 switching for each IV lines to apply coding. Thus, the simultaneous operation of the picture reader and the encoder is attained to reduce the coding time.
