Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive display device by charging a plastic filler in gas between fibers on a light incidence surface, forming transmissive liquid crystal cells in an end surface, arraying optical fibers at larger intervals in a light projection surface than in the light incidence surface, and guiding an optical image from the light incidence surface to the light projection surface by using the fibers as a light guide. CONSTITUTION:The optical fibers 1 are bundled and the plastic filler 2 is charged in all of the gaps between the fibers 1, and the end surface of the light incidence surface is smoothed to form a substrate, and transmissive liquid crystal cells 4 are arranged thereupon to form the optical image by a back light source. Light projection surfaces 3 are arrayed at intervals of necessary magnification and the optical image on the light incidence surface is enlarged by the necessary magnification. Then liquid crystal is used as an optical shutter and the constituted optical image is enlarged by utilizing the effect of the image enlargement of the optical fibers. Consequently, an image of good picture quality is formed and the lightweight, durable, and low-cost display device with small capacity is obtained.
