CONSTITUTION:A central processing unit 1, a main storage device 2, input/ output processing units 3, 4 and an input/output device 5 applying input/output operation are provided. Moreover, access paths 10, 11 from the input/output processing unit 3 to the input/output device 5 and access paths 20, 21 from the input/output processing unit 4 to the input/output device 5 are provided. When the input/output operation to the input/output device 5 is commanded by a program, the central processing unit 1 commands the input/output operation to the input/output processing unit 3. The input/output processing unit 3 decides an accessible path group among plural access paths to the input/output device 5 prepared in advance based on mask information representing the accessible path from the input/output processing unit 3, selects either of the access paths 10, 11 depending on an algorithm to initiate the input/output operation.
