Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a clad steel plate raw material by a twin roll caster by supplying molten steel to grooving part formed between rolls with flange and core material to form the clad layer on the surface of core material. CONSTITUTION:The played-out core material 13 is heated to the prescribed temp. by an induction heater 3, to control it to the optimum temp. for combining with the clad material. The heated core material 13 is supplied to between the rotated rolls 5, to pass between the rolls 5 while holding by the flange part 5a. At the same time of this, the molten steel 12 having the desired material is supplied into the grooving part 5b surrounding by the roll 5 and the core material 13 from a pouring nozzle 4, and the molten steel 12 is cooled by both faces of the core material 13 and roll surface. In this way, the produced clad raw material 16 changes its direction by a guide roller 7, to draw horizontally and becomes the clad steel plate raw material 9 by rolling into the prescribed thickness by rolling mill 8, to wind to a coiler 11.

(Problems to be Solved by the Invention) However, such conventional casting methods using twin roll casters are aimed exclusively at producing a single material, and are not suitable for continuous production of slabs of a single material. Although it has been somewhat effective as a manufacturing method, it does not have the ability to manufacture materials with other shapes and structures that are industrially required, such as casting composite materials such as clad steel sheet materials. No such research and development has been reported.

(Means for Solving the Problems) In order to achieve the above object, the inventor of the present invention investigated measures suitable for casting composite materials, and as a result, the present inventors determined that the core material constituting the composite material should be retained and the molten metal poured. We have discovered that this is possible if we use a role structure that allows both pooling and pooling at the same time, and hereby we have devised the present invention.

In the figure, reference numeral 5 denotes a pair of water-cooled rolls that are arranged opposite to each other with a predetermined roll gap and are rotatable in opposite directions. An uncoiler 2 is installed above the roll 5 so that the coil 1, which becomes the core material 13, can be unwound and fed downward. An induction heater 3 is provided between the uncoiler 2 and the roll 5 to sandwich the core material 13 and heat the extreme surface layer thereof, and further below the induction heater 3, a pouring nozzle 4 is provided. Note that other suitable methods may be employed as the heating means.

The spacing between the collar portions 5a is determined according to the width of the cladding material, and the height 11 (depth of the raised portion 5b) is determined according to the thickness of the cladding material. Note that 5c is a water cooling jacket. With such a structure, the core material 13 is held between the opposing collar portions 5a, and the molten steel 12 is poured into the groove 5b closed by the core material 13 to form a pool, and both surfaces of the roll and the core material 13 are formed. During this period, molten steel can be continuously supplied and solidified.
