Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a packaging material capable of preventing occurrence of insect pests in grains during storage and providing observation of the contents from the outside, by constituting the packaging material of an at least partially light-transmitting plastic film containing a pearlescent pigment kneaded therein. CONSTITUTION:A packaging material consisting of an at least partially light- transmitting plastic film obtained by kneading 0.1-20wt% pearlescent pigment, e.g. titanium oxide-coated mica, basic lead carbonate, bismuth chloride, etc., therein. Although the titanium oxide-coated mica, basic lead carbonate, bismuth chloride, etc., are cited as the pearlescent pigment used, the titanium oxide- coated mica pigment prepared by coating the surface of scaly mica flakes with fine particulate titanium oxide is preferred because of no toxicity. Polyethylene is particularly preferred as the plastic material for forming the film. If the amount of the pearlescent pigment blended is too small, no effect is obtained. Conversely, it the amount is too much, the film becomes opaque. Thereby the amount within the range of 1-5wt% is particularly preferred.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a packaging material that can prevent pests from infesting grains during storage.

It is well known that grains, especially rice, are susceptible to damage from insects such as brown elephants during storage. These pests lay their eggs on the raw powder at the time of harvest, and if conditions such as light, temperature, and humidity are right during storage, the eggs transform into larvae, and eventually become adults and reproduce. Therefore, the eggs of these pests are always laid in the powder, and if the environment is conducive to growth, these pests will appear in the powder and the milled rice processed from it.

Light-transparent plastic films such as polyethylene have come to be used as packaging materials for grains, especially polished rice. For example, this product is widely used as a packaging material for milled rice because it allows consumers to observe the contents without opening the bag. Even in grains packaged in such light-transmitting plastic film bags, pests such as the brown elephant will appear if the environment is suitable for growth as described above. For this reason, rice retailers are equipped with refrigerators and store grain in plastic bags at all times. If you use a container that does not transmit light, such as a paper bag, pests will be less likely to occur even when stored at room temperature compared to polyethylene film bags, but it will not be possible to observe the contents without tearing the package, and There are inconveniences such as the inability to close the mouth with a seal.

Therefore, the present inventors developed a material that is light-transparent so that the contents can be observed from the outside, but which, like light-opaque materials, can prevent pest infestation even when stored in pest-prone conditions. After searching for packaging materials, they found that plastic films such as polyethitane with pearlescent pigments were suitable for this purpose.

Therefore, the present invention provides a packaging material for grain storage consisting of an at least partially light-transparent plastic film incorporating 0.1 to 20% by weight of a pearlescent pigment such as titanium mica, basic lead carbonate, or bismuth chloride. provide.

Pigments that produce pearl-like luster due to light interference phenomena are used, for example, in the production of artificial pearls. Titanium mica, basic lead carbonate, bismuth chloride, and the like are known as pearlescent pigments, but titanium mica pigments, which are made by coating the surface of scale-like mica flakes with fine particles of titanium oxide, are preferred because they are nontoxic.

The plastic material forming the film may be any plastic that is inherently transparent and flexible. Examples include plasticized polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, etc. Polyethylene is particularly preferred.

If the amount of the pearlescent pigment is too small, the effect will be ineffective, and if it is too large, the film will become opaque, so the appropriate amount is generally 0.1 to 20% by weight, particularly 1 to 5% by weight.

Although the above blending amount is for direct inking into the film, the purpose can also be achieved by applying a paint containing pearlescent pigment in an amount corresponding to that in solid bone to a film that does not contain pearlescent pigment.
