[Detailed Description of the Invention] The present invention relates to a steam iron, and in particular, an object of the present invention is to improve the water inlet portion of a steam iron in which the tank is integrally molded from plastics or the like to prevent water dripping when water is poured into the iron.

As shown in FIG. 8, the water inlet in a conventional steam iron has a taper-shaped opening, which is a desirable configuration for preventing water from spilling or dripping. However, in this case, the tank and water inlet are constructed separately and connected, and sufficient space must be secured between the front surface of the iron and the tank. This invention is based on an iron whose tank is integrally molded from plastic, etc. Therefore, since the water inlet is also integrally formed on the front of the tank, it is impossible to adopt the conventional structure as described above. It is.

In a tank with this type of structure, it is possible to provide a water inlet that protrudes inward from the front of the tank, but since the tank capacity will be smaller, the time that can be spent on each water injection will be shortened. Another drawback is that the remaining water in the tank cannot be completely drained after work.

As a result of these considerations, the present invention came up with a structure in which a recess for receiving water is integrally provided in the front of the tank to facilitate water injection, and a water inlet is provided near the upper end of this recess. FIGS. 6 and 7 are examples obtained in the process of such studies, and the lower edge of the water inlet 21 is exposed with the end surface of the wall 23 defining the water receiving recess 22 in the same plate thickness state. Therefore, relatively large water droplets A remain attached to the edges after water is poured. It was discovered that when the iron is placed in a horizontal position during use, water falls downward as shown in FIG. 6 and becomes a drip, causing stains on the clothes being ironed.

The purpose of the present invention is to prevent such water dripping, and a recess 2 for receiving water is provided in the front of the tank 1, and a water inlet 3 is provided near the upper end of this recess 2.
A stepped portion 4 facing outward from the tank is provided on the lower edge end face of the water inlet 3. This step 4 is provided within the thickness of the wall 5 defining the recess 2. In such a configuration, when the water filling is finished, the water droplets B adhering to the lower end face of the water filling port 3 are extremely small at the corners of the stepped portion 4, and do not drip when the iron is used. This is thought to be caused by surface tension, and as a result of the experiment, the width a of the first step part is 0.5 mm, the height b is 0.5 mm, as shown in Figure 4.
Good results were obtained by setting the width c of the second step to 1.5 mm.

It has been found that the tip has a smooth curve that reduces the thickness of the plate as shown in Figure A, and the tip has an acute angle as shown in Figure 5 B, which are somewhat effective in improving water drainage. As mentioned above, if the tank is intended to be integrally molded, it is difficult to mold it.

As described above, according to the present invention, water drains easily when water is poured, and when the iron is held horizontally after pouring water and ironing work is started, the water does not drip, making it safe to use and preventing stains from clothes. I don't have to worry about getting it on. And its configuration is simple,
This contributes to improving the quality of this type of iron.
