下部シヤフトと12からなるステアリングシヤフ
ト1を、車体静止部材3に取付けたステアリング
コラム2に回転自由に支持したエネルギー吸収式
ステアリング装置であつて、前記ステアリングコ
ラム2を第1コラム分割体21と第2コラム分割
体22とに分割して、前記第1コラム分割体21
に前記上部シヤフト11を、また前記第2コラム
分割体22に前記下部シヤフト12をそれぞれ軸
受23,24を介して支持する一方、前記第1コ
ラム分割体21と前記第2コラム分割体22のい
ずれか一方に円筒部27を形成し、他方の分割体
に、前記円筒部27よりも短く且つ該円筒部27
の外周面に面接触する平面状の接触壁25を複数
設けた接続筒部26を形成して、前記接続筒部2
6内に前記円筒部27を圧入し、前記接続筒部2
6における前記円筒部27の圧入方向前方を一部
残して該円筒部27を前記接続筒部26にラツプ
させたことを特徴とするエネルギー吸収式ステア
