第1図は本発明の一実施例を示す。複写機にお
いて原稿台ガラス1上には原稿2がそのサイズに
より予め決められている位置にセツトされてその
上に原稿押えカバー3が被せられるが、この原稿
セツト方式では各原稿サイズの違いが原稿スキヤ
ン方向に対して長さの違いとして出てくる方式で
あつて各サイズの原稿の左側エツジが互いに異な
る位置になる。オペレータ操作でコピースタート
スイツチが入れられたことにより原稿スキヤンが
行われ、この原稿スキヤンは原稿台ガラス1が固
定で光学系が初期位置より左方向へ移動するこ
とによつてなされる。同時に光センサー4は駆動
系により初期位置より右方向へ一定速度で移動
して走査し、原稿台ガラス1に向けて赤外光を発
してその反射光を受光する。またフリツプフロツ
プ5がコントロール部からのカウントスタート信
号によりリセツトされてその出力により増幅器6
がイネーブルされ、光センサー4の出力が増幅器
6を介してフリツプフロツプ5のリセツト入力端
子Rに入力される。更にコントロール部からの適
当な一定周波数の基本クロツクがフリツプフロツ
プ5の出力によりアンド回路7を通りカウンタ8
でカウントされる。光センサー4は原稿押えカバ
ー3及び原稿2に対して原稿スキヤン方向と平行
な直線上を原稿スキヤン方向と逆向きに走査する
ことになり、第2図に示すような出力が得られ
る。この出力は原稿2の左側エツジ部に対するエ
ツジ信号aや原稿2上の画像に対する画像信号b
を含み、最初にエツジ信号aが得られてフリツプ
フロツプ5がリセツトされる。そしてフリツプフ
ロツプ5のリセツトにより増幅器6が不動作とな
りアンド回路7が不成立になつてカウンタ8が停
止する。従つてカウンタ8の内容は原稿2の左側
エツジの位置、つまり原稿サイズを示すことにな
る。フリツプフロツプ5の出力はコントロール部
へも行き、原稿サイズをカウンタ8の値として計
測したことを知らせる。コントロール部ではカウ
ンタ8の値を計測後に読みとり、その値により給
紙カートリツジ選択手段を制御して複数のセツト
されている給紙カートリツジのうち原稿サイズに
対応した給紙サイズの給紙カートリツジを選択し
て使用させる。ここで光センサー4は原稿2の左
側エツジを検知すればよいので、その走査速度を
原稿スキヤン速度より速くてさしつかえない。又
第3図は原稿台ガラス1上におけるB5、A4、
B4、A3サイズの原稿のセツト位置を示すが、光
センサー4は全ての原稿が設置される範囲l内の
位置Cを走査するように配置すればよい。原稿サ
イズが規定サイズより大幅にずれる場合上記範囲
l外の位置dを走査する第2の光センサーを設け
ることにより原稿のスキヤン方向と直角な方向の
長さを検知して給紙サイズを選択することもでき
る。すなわち、コントロール部において第2の光
センサーの出力により原稿がA版かB版かを検知
してこれとカウンタ8の値により原稿サイズを検
知して給紙サイズを選択することができる。

スキヤン方向と同じ方向に走査すれば光センサー
の出力よりエツジ信号と画像信号を判別しなけれ
ばならないが、本発明では光センサーを原稿スキ
ヤン方向と逆向きに走査するので、光センサーか
らの最初の信号がエツジ信号となつてその判別が
容易である。
