However, after a long period of time, concrete changes from alkaline to neutral due to reactions with carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide in the air.

When the reinforcing steel expands, cracks appear in the concrete, and when these cracks reach the surface, air and water enter through the cracks, accelerating corrosion and eventually causing the concrete to fail.

Moreover, the effect does not last long.

By applying this suspension to the concrete surface, the colloid enters the concrete and fills the micropores inside the concrete, blocking the environment between the inside and outside of the concrete and preventing the infiltration of outside air and moisture. is maintained for a long time. In addition, a portion of the silica colloid and alumina colloid that has entered the concrete reacts with calcium hydroxide to produce a calcium compound of silicic acid or aluminate, which also has the effect of strengthening deteriorated concrete.

A concrete specimen with a length of 40 cm was prepared, and the surface layer was neutralized to a depth of about 10 mm using carbon dioxide gas. The alkali imparting agent of the present invention, that is, an alcohol solution of an alkoxide, was applied to this specimen with a brush, and after one day, a phenolphthalein indicator was sprayed onto the fractured surface, and the depth at which alkalinity could be recovered was determined from the discoloration. As a comparative example, an aqueous alkali silicate solution was also tested. The coating amount was 400 g/rrr in both cases. The results are shown in Table 1.

The alkoxide in the alcohol solution penetrates deep into the concrete and reacts with the water in the concrete to form metal hydroxide, which restores the alkalinity of the concrete, prevents corrosion of the reinforcing steel in the concrete, and suppresses concrete deterioration. After applying the alkoxide, the effect of the alkoxide application is maintained by applying an aqueous suspension of silica colloid or alumina colloid to the alkoxide-applied surface, which is an industrially useful method.
