It is well known to feed a document to a platen of a copying machine by means of a document feeder of the type described above for illumination scanning of the document. In this case, since the original contacts the loose side of the wrapping member, the contact force between the wrapping member and the original is relatively small. For this reason, in conventional devices of this type, slippage occurs between the document and the wrapping member, and the document is not reliably conveyed, leading to the risk that the document may jam within the feeding device. In order to solve this problem, it has been proposed to arrange a plurality of press rollers on the loose side of the wrapping member to strengthen the conveying force over almost the entire platen sliding area of the wrapping member. However, if the conveyance force increases even at the document stop position, it becomes difficult for slippage to occur between the document that has stopped against the stopper member and the wrapping member, and for example, if the document is fed diagonally, it may stop in that state. There were times when the original was wrinkled.

A document feeding device according to the present invention is provided above the platen 1, and this device has a winding wheel configured as a driving roller 4 and a driven roller 5, and a winding member configured as an endless belt 7. However, the endless belt 7 is wound around the rollers (pulleys) 4 and 5. Reference numeral 6 denotes a guide roller that guides the endless belt 7, and in this example, a plurality of endless belts 7 are provided (see FIG. 2). In this case, the roller located on the left side of the platen 1 is the drive roller, which drives the belt in the direction of arrow A, so that the belt 7 is located with its slack side facing the surface of the platen 1. . 8 is a stopper device provided on the right side of the platen 1;
This stopper device 8 serves to stop the document at a predetermined position on the platen. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the stopper device 8 includes a shaft 9 extending in the lateral direction of the platen 1 and rotatably supported on the machine frame, and a plurality of levers 10 fixed to the shaft 9. A stopper member 11 is fixed to the tips of these levers, and this member 11 is made of an elastic material such as rubber. A swing arm 1 is attached to the shaft 9.
2 is fixed to the arm 12, and a plunger of a solenoid 13 is pivotally connected to the tip of the arm 12. The shaft 9 rotates in accordance with the energization and deenergization of the solenoid 13, so that the lever 10 and the stopper member 11 can rotate between the positions indicated by the solid line and the chain line.

When the copying machine has the document stop copying mode selected, when the document 14 is inserted between the drive roller 4 and the guide member 15 provided around it as shown by arrow B, the document will move in the direction of arrow A. Due to the frictional force with the belt 7 running on the guide member 1,
5 and then over the platen 1.
At this time, the solenoid 13 of the stopper device 8 is energized, so the lever 10 is rotated to the position shown by the solid line, and the stopper member 11 is abutted against the upper surface of the platen 1. When the original 14 fed on the platen 1 reaches the stopper device 8, this original 1
4 comes into contact with the stopper member 11, and the document is stopped at a predetermined position suitable for illumination (see the document 14 indicated by the dashed line in FIG. 2). Although the belt may be stopped after the document has stopped at a predetermined position, the belt 7 may be allowed to run in the direction of arrow A even after the document has stopped. Even if the belt continues to run, the document 14 is in contact with the slack side of the belt 7, so the frictional force between the belt and the document is relatively small. will be stopped without any problem. In this case, even if the original is fed in an oblique position as shown by the two-dot chain line in FIG. It can be stopped in the normal state shown by the dashed line.

The above operation is exactly the same as that of the conventional device, and in this case, in the conventional device, the document is conveyed in contact with the slack side of the belt, which reduces the frictional force between the belt and the document. As previously explained, there was a possibility that the document would not be conveyed to the stopper device and would be stopped midway. In order to avoid such inconveniences, the present invention is provided with a conveyance auxiliary means for assisting the conveyance of the document, and this auxiliary means in this example is arranged so that the document is conveyed from above the belt 7 as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. A presser roller 1 that presses the belt and the document 14 onto the platen 1 with appropriate pressure.
It is configured as 6. Due to the pressing action of the presser roller 16, the belt 7 is pressed against the document 14 being conveyed, and therefore the frictional force between the belt and the document increases, so that the document 14 is reliably fed by the belt. become. The presser roller may be fixedly arranged so as not to rotate, but in this case, the roller 16 and the belt 7 will be inconveniently worn, so the roller 16 is driven to rotate at the same peripheral speed as the belt speed. Alternatively, it is desirable to support it in a free state. The presser roller 16 is located on the slack side of the belt and near the entrance of the document transport path, and in this case, the distance between the presser roller 16 and the stopper member 11 is set to be larger than the length of the largest document that can be copied. A presser roller is placed on the holder. As a result, when the leading edge of the original comes into contact with the stopper member 11, the trailing edge of the original has already left the presser roller 16. Therefore, even when the original is fed diagonally, the belt and stopper member Due to the cooperative action with the stopper member, there is no risk that the above-mentioned function of stopping the document in a normal state by the stopper member will be impaired.

The document, which has thus been reliably conveyed and stopped at a predetermined position on the platen, is illuminated and scanned by the light source 2 moving in the direction of arrow C. After being reflected by the reflecting mirror 3, the document is exposed to light (not shown). The body is exposed to light to form a latent image on the photoreceptor. The original document 14 that has been illuminated is discharged out of the machine by the belt 7 as the stopper member 11 rotates to the position shown by the chain line.

Next, the operation of the copying machine when the moving document copying mode is selected will be described. In this case, the light source 2 and the reflecting mirror 3 are stopped in advance at the left position shown by the chain line in FIG. 1 (this position may be the left end position of the light source moving range in the case of moving light source scanning), and the stopper member 11 is rotated to the waiting position shown by the chain line. Then, an optically formed optical slit 1a is located on the platen near the stationary light source 4 as described above. In this state, when an original is fed between the guide member 15 and the drive roller 4, when the original passes through the optical slit 1a while being conveyed, the light from the light source illuminates the original through the optical slit 1a, and this light exposes a photosensitive body not shown. In this case, too, the pressing roller 16 prevents slippage between the original and the belt, and the original is fed on the platen at a specified speed. Therefore, a specified relationship is maintained between the scanning speed of the original and the speed of the photosensitive body, and the copying operation is performed reliably. In this case, if the pressing roller 16 is provided near the optical slit 1a, the document speed on the optical slit can be more reliably maintained at a predetermined speed, which is particularly advantageous. The document 14 that has been illuminated is not stopped by a stopper device, but is conveyed by the belt and discharged to the outside of the machine.

As described above, according to the present invention, the document can be transported reliably even when the document is illuminated while it is stopped, or when the document is illuminated while it is moving. It can be stopped in any direction. Note that the present invention is not limited to the above-mentioned embodiments, and can be configured with various modifications. For example, the conveyance assisting means is not limited to rollers, but may be configured with other appropriately shaped members, and this member can be It can also be placed in contact with the belt. Further, this auxiliary means is not limited to one, but an appropriate number may be provided. For example, in the example shown in FIG. 2, one auxiliary means is provided above the optical slit 1a, but instead of this, the As shown, auxiliary means can be provided on each side of the optical slit. Furthermore, if the document feeder is constructed so that it can rotate in the direction of arrow D (FIG. 1) about its drive roller 4, it is advantageous because even thick documents, such as books, can be copied without any trouble. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3 as well, it is desirable to arrange the auxiliary means so that when the leading edge of the document reaches the stopper device, the trailing edge of the document is separated from the auxiliary means 16, 16a. Further, in the above embodiments, the wrapping member is constructed as a belt, but it goes without saying that other wrapping means, such as a rope, can be used.
