Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a magnetic recording and reproducing device, by incorporating an adaptor for small-sized tape cassette inside the device and providing a moving means for mounting the adaptor on the device and another moving means which mounts a standard type tape cassette. CONSTITUTION:When a standard type tape cassette 25 is inserted into a device 1 from an inserting port 3 and a standard tape cassette holder 8 is pressed, a sliding arm 21 is turned counterclockwise around a shaft 24 and the tape cassette 25 is loaded into the device 1. When a small-sized tape cassette is loaded into the device 1, the small-sized tape cassette is mounted on an adaptor 7. Then another sliding arm 15 turns counterclockwise around a shaft 18 and an adaptor holder 6 is guided to the position shown by the broken lines and, accordingly, the adaptor 7 is mounted on the device 1 and recording or reproducing is performed on or from the tape cassette. When such constitution is used, the operability of the magnetic recorder and reproducing device 1 is improved, because it is not required to remove the adaptor from the device 1 when a standard type tape cassette is used.
