Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare spongy wheat bran pellet having excellent permeability and water-retainability, resistant to ready collapse in water, having porous and spongy texture and useful as a culture medium for various fungi, by using a wheat bran having coarse particle size as a raw material. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. of wheat bran containing >=50%, preferably about >=80% fraction having particle diameter of >=1mm is added with a large amount of water (>=40pts.wt. of water) and a small amount of a binder such as agar, guar gum and synthetic paste and the mixture is formed. The formed product is spontaneously dried or dried by heating at about >=70 deg.C to obtain pellets having final water-content of about <=15%.

Detailed Description of the Invention <Industrial Application Field> The present invention relates to a method for producing spongy bran pellets used as a medium for culturing various fungi. The present invention relates to a method for producing pellets that float on water, are porous and spongy, have a large surface area, have excellent water permeability and water retention, and do not easily lose their shape in water.

<Problems to be solved by the invention> As mentioned above, in order to utilize bran's characteristics of 4ii fiber quality and water retention as a culture medium for fungi, it is difficult to use bran in its powder form due to its poor air permeability. The pellets produced using conventional methods are too hard, have poor permeability, and lose their shape when exposed to water. In addition, a swelling method is used to produce porous materials with a specific gravity that allows them to float on water, but this requires the addition of a large amount of starch (more than 30%), which affects the characteristics of the bran. However, it could not be used in applications requiring low starch content.

<Means for Solving the Problems> The present invention produces bran pellets that have properties completely different from the conventionally produced pellets as described above, that is, they are porous and spongy, have excellent permeability, and water retention. The purpose of this product is to produce bran pellets that do not easily lose their shape even in water, and are mixed by adding a large amount of water (40 parts by weight or more) and a small amount of a binder to 100 parts of wheat bran. This method has been completed to industrially mass-produce the desired bran pellets by molding, molding, and drying.

<Effects> As described above, the method for producing pellets according to the present invention is low in cost, and when used as a culture medium, the pellets are porous and spongy and have sufficient air permeability and light-trapping properties by ensuring voids. Moreover, the moisture retention of the bran improves water retention, and its nutritional content provides pellets that are ideal for culturing fungi.
