用メカニカルシール等において、シールリングに
よる外筒の破損を防止することを目的とするもの
である。

従来から、この種用途に供されるメカニカルシ
ールの一種として、第1図に示すごとく、外筒a

リングeによつて該シールリングcをフローテイ
ングシートfに押圧し、該シールリングcとフロ
ーテイングシートfとを密接摺動させるものが知
られており、かつこのメカニカルシールはシヤフ
トの回転に従動するフローテイングシートfに対
して、シールリングcが共廻りするのを阻止する
ため、外筒aの凸状の廻り止め部a′とシールリン
グcの凹状の廻り止め部c′とを直接に係合させる
廻り止め構造を有しているが、実際にこれを作動
させてみると、前記両廻り止め部a′,c′が周方向
に繰り返し衝接し、該部a′,c′に破損を生じると
いう欠点を有しており、とくに前記シールリング
cをシリコンカーバイドにより製し、外筒aを金
属材により製した場合、摺動トルクが大きくなつ
て外筒aの廻り止め部a′に摩滅を生じ易いという
欠点を有していた。

また前記シールリング本体2、金属環3およびゴ
ム様弾性材4の3部材からなる当該リングの内周
面には、第3図に示すように、凹状の廻り止め部
5が形成され、該廻り止め部5に対して金属製の
外筒6の凸状の廻り止め部7(第2図)が符号す
るようになる。
