A so-called pressure-contact type electrical connector that connects a flat cable consisting of two or more parallel conductors covered and bonded with an insulating material to an electrical terminal generally equipped with a V-shaped or U-shaped wire receiving groove. is publicly known. FIG. 1 shows an example of this type of electrical connector. This connector has a conductor connection part 8 consisting of a pair of arms 7 having a contact part (not shown) for connecting with an external terminal at one end and a sharp tip for penetrating the insulating material of the flat cable at the other end. A first housing 1 in which a terminal 6 is disposed within an insulating base 2 having a plurality of terminal receiving holes 5 such that its conductor connection portion 8 protrudes above the insulating base.
and a plurality of arms 7 for receiving a pair of arms 7 of the conductor connection part that protrude through the insulating material when the conductor connection part 8 is penetrated through the insulating material 12 of the flat cable F and the conductor 11 is connected to the conductor connection part 8. The second housing 21 has a hole (not shown). Furthermore, when an axial force is applied to the flat cable connected to the terminal 6, this connector clamps and fixes the flat cable between the second housing 21 and the second housing 21 in order to alleviate strain on the connection between the cable and the terminal. It has a cable fixture 31 for fixing the cable.

By the way, in such a known electrical connector, as shown in the figure, the second housing 21 has a pair of parallel legs 22 extending downward from both ends of the second housing 21 in the longitudinal direction, and cable fixing devices extend from both ends thereof. It has a pair of legs 32 that open slightly outward and extend downward, and the legs 22 and 32 fix the second housing 21 to the first housing 1 and the cable fixture 31 to the second housing 21, respectively. It's becoming like that. That is, the legs 22 of the second housing 21 pass through the openings 3 formed at both longitudinal ends of the first housing 1, and the portions 23 of the legs 22 pass through the locking protrusions 4 formed at both ends of the first housing.
The legs 32 of the cable fixture 31 pass through openings 24 formed at both ends of the second housing 21, and the shoulders 33 of the legs 32 resiliently engage with the bottom surface of the second housing.

One problem with such known electrical connectors is that both the second housing and the cable fixture have long fixation legs as described above, which tend to break during molding, reducing the yield of good products. This means that they are susceptible to similar damage during transportation, product inspection, assembly work, and other handling. Furthermore, the presence of these legs complicates the structure of the mold and increases the manufacturing cost of the mold.

An electrical connector for connecting a flat cable formed by covering and bonding a plurality of parallel conductors with an insulating material, the electrical connector comprising a first housing, a second housing and a cable fixing device that are sequentially stacked on the first housing. an insulating base whose first housing has a substantially rectangular shape, and a pair of guide walls extending upwardly from one side of the insulating base at right angles to one side of the insulating base at both longitudinal ends of the insulating base. The insulating base has a plurality of electrical terminals, each of which has a conductor connection portion projecting upward from the one side of the insulating base, and the conductor connection portion is connected to the insulation of the flat cable. A pair of arms each having a pointed tip that can pierce a material is provided, and when the coated conductor portion of the flat cable is pressed between the arms, each of the conductors of the flat cable pierces the pair of arms. the second housing has a substantially rectangular shape, and the second housing has a substantially rectangular shape; has a plurality of holes extending inwardly from one side of the second housing, the one side of the first housing and the one side of the second housing having an end surface guided along the guide wall of the second housing. When the parallel cables are sandwiched between the parallel cables and the parallel cables are overlapped, the holes of the second housing receive the pairs of arms protruding through the flat cables, and the cables The fixture has a substantially rectangular shape and has an end face guided along the guide wall of the first housing at its longitudinal end, and clamps and fixes the flat cable between one side face of the fixture and the second housing. In the electrical connector, the first housing includes elastic walls on the pair of guide walls, each elastic wall having a fixed upper end and a free lower end. a first locking piece that can be engaged with a first shoulder provided on each end surface of the second housing, and a second locking piece formed on each front end surface of the cable fixture near each fixed end; a second locking piece that engages with the shoulder of the flat cable, and the second housing and the cable fixture each sandwich the flat cable and are superimposed on the first housing so that the first and second shoulders When the elastic walls abut against the first and second locking pieces of the pair of elastic walls, the elastic walls bend outward to allow passage of the first and second shoulders, and the first and second shoulder sections respectively bend outward. When the second shoulder passes through the first and second locking pieces, the elastic wall returns to its original position and the first shoulder, first locking piece, and second locking piece move together. An electrical connector characterized in that a shoulder portion and a second locking piece are engaged with each other, thereby fixing the second housing and the cable fixture to the first housing.
