Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect abnormality of a breaker even if an electromagnetic coil is broken by dividing the terminal voltage across the electromagnetic coil and measuring the operation time of electric equipment from the voltage division output. CONSTITUTION:A breaking mechanism which is not shown in a figure is operated through the lead-out coil 1 of the breaker 1 and a switch 2 is opened to cut off electric feeding to the coil 1. The terminal voltage across the coil 1 is divided to develop a voltage proportional to the coil voltage across a resistance 6b, and the voltage is inputted to a decision means 4. The output of a comparator 8 is supplied to a timer 9, whose pulse time width is measured. This pulse time width is monitored by a decision device 10 to judge whether the breaker is normal or not. Then if the coil 1 is broken, a voltage is developed across the coil 1, but the breaking mechanism does not operate, so the switch 2 is not opened. The pulse time width measured by the timer 9, therefore, increases abnormally, so the fault of the breaker is detected from the time width of the pulse even if the coil is broken.

When the cutoff operation is completed, the switch 2 is opened and the current to the tripping coil 1 is cut off. The current flowing through the tripping coil 1 is detected by the current transformer 40 and produces a voltage across the shell resistor 50 as shown in FIG. 5A. This voltage is input to comparator 8.

The comparator 8 outputs an output when this voltage exceeds the threshold value Th (see Fig. 4 A and B). @4 The output of the comparator 8 shown in Figure B is input to the timer 9, and its pulse time width T is measured. By monitoring this pulse time width T by the determiner 10, it is determined whether the breaker is normal or abnormal. That is, if the shutdown time is delayed due to an abnormality in the circuit breaker, this can be detected.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] The conventional monitoring device detects that current flows through the tripping coil 1, recognizes that there is a shutdown command, and determines whether the breaker is normal or not based on the current. Determining abnormality. By the way, when the tripping coil 1 is disconnected, no current flows. Therefore, conventional monitoring devices could not detect an abnormality in such a case.

is activated. When the cut-off operation is completed, the switch 2, which is a switch means, is opened and the energization to the tripping coil 1 is cut off. The voltage across the tripping coil 1 is divided by the voltage dividing means 6, and a voltage proportional to the coil voltage is generated across the resistor 6b. This voltage shown in FIG. 2A is input to the measurement and determination means 4. In this embodiment, the measurement determination means 4 is composed of a comparator 8, a timer 9, and a determination device IO. The comparator 8 outputs an output when this voltage exceeds the threshold value Th (see Fig. 2A).

By monitoring this pulse time width T by the determiner 10, it is determined whether the breaker is normal or abnormal. Next, a detection operation when the tripping coil l is disconnected will be described. In this case, although a voltage is generated across the coil 10, the switch 2 does not open because the switching mechanism does not operate, and the voltage across the resistor 6b becomes as shown in FIG. 2C. Therefore, the pulse time width T measured by the timer 9 becomes abnormally large, and a failure can be detected.
