Abstract

PURPOSE:To well transfer a color ink layer, by providing a layer based on a wax as a main constituent to the surface of a polyester film and providing the color ink layer containing a heat-meltable synthetic resin as the main component of a vehicle to the surface of said layer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal melt transfer recording medium is constituted by providing a layer based on a wax to the surface of a polyester film and further providing a color ink layer containing a heat-meltable synthetic resin as the main component of a vehicle to the surface of the wax layer. The polyester film has a thickness of 2-10mum and the wax layer is pref. formed so that the thickness thereof after coating and drying is set to 2-3g/m<2>, while the thickness of colored layer after drying is pref. set as approx. to 4-10g/m<2>. As the main component of the wax layer, polyethylene wax, paraffin wax and a mixture thereof are suitable and, as the heat-meltable synthetic resin, a resin having m.p. of 50-90 deg.C and a melt index of 20-1,000g/10min (190 deg.C) such as an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, a polyamide resin or 1,2- polybutadiene is used.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Industrial Application Field] The present invention is applicable to computer printers and typewriters.
The present invention relates to a heat-sensitive melt-transfer recording medium for use in a heat-sensitive melt-transfer recording method using a thermal head, which is employed in, for example. More specifically, the present invention relates to a heat-sensitive melt transfer recording medium in which a heat-melt colored ink layer containing a heat-melt synthetic resin as the main component of the vehicle is provided on one side of a polyester film.

[Prior art and its problems] In this type of heat-sensitive melt transfer recording medium, it is possible to improve the printing performance on paper with a rough surface, or to re-apply the colored ink layer that has been image-formedly transferred to the recording paper. Peeling and erasing function by overprinting (hereinafter referred to as lift-off property)
An appropriate heat-melting synthetic resin is added to the vehicle in order to provide abrasion resistance that prevents the printed image transferred to the recording paper from washing away even when rubbed by a machine or fingers. The colored ink layer, which is the main component, has attracted attention.

On the other hand, from the viewpoint of heat resistance and thickness, polyester films have been widely used as supports for this type of heat-sensitive melt transfer recording media. If a colored ink layer is formed by coating the main component, the ink may adhere too much to the polyester film, and some of it may remain on the film side when heated by the thermal head, resulting in a good printed image. The problem was that it was difficult.

[Means for Solving the Problems] In order to solve these problems, the present invention provides a layer containing wax as a main component on the surface of a polyester film, and a heat-melting synthetic resin on the surface of the wax layer. It has a structure in which a colored ink layer containing resin as the main component of the vehicle is provided.

[Function and Effects of the Invention] With the above configuration, the wax layer is well melted by heating with a thermal head, and a layer with weak internal cohesive force is formed between the colored ink layer and the polyester film. Although the colored ink layer has a strong internal cohesive force due to the vehicle, it is thought that only the areas heated by the thermal head are selectively transferred to the recording paper, and this causes the polyester film to be transferred to the recording paper side. It has become possible to successfully transfer a colored ink layer containing a heat-melting synthetic resin as the main component of the vehicle while using it as a support.
