Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は液晶表示装置の正面光源の構造に関する。
〔従来の技術〕
従来の液晶表示装置における、正面光源の構造は、第３
図に示す様に上偏光体４の上から、正面光源５の光を照
射する構造であった。
〔発明が解決しようとする問題点〕
しかし、前述の従来波゛術では、正面光源からの距離に
より、液晶パネル上面への光量のばらつきが大きい、と
いう問題があり、そのばらつきをなくすためには複数個
の正面光源を設置する必要があり、構造及び消費電力に
おいて大きな問題があった。また上記理由により、表示
面積の大きい液晶表示装置への利用は困難であった。
また、正面光源や光が、上偏光体を通して液晶表示体に
入射するため効率が悪いという欠点も有していた。
本発明はかかる問題を解決するものでありその目的は、
正面光源の光を、液晶パネル上面に均一に、照射し、正
面光源の効率を向上させることにある。
本発明の液晶表示装置は、液晶パネルと該液晶パネル上
の上偏光体との間に正面光源を設置し、該光源の光を前
記上偏光体の反射を利用し、前記液晶パネル全面に均一
に拡散させることを特徴とする特 〔作用〕 本発明の上記構成によれば、第２図の矢印の様に、正面
光源５の直接照射する光と、上偏光体４０反射光と、ラ
イト反射板６からの反射光、及び主偏光体４の上面から
照射される光の合成された光が、液晶パネル上面に均一
照射される。
照射された光は液晶パネル１．下偏光体２を反射板３に
より往復し、主偏光体４を通ってｈの目に入る。その間
、液晶パネル１の電圧の印加された画素を通る光だけが
主偏光体４を通過もしくは吸収されることによって表示
がなされる。
〔実施例〕
第１図は本発明の一実施例における主要断面図である。
液晶パネル１の下には、下偏光体２と反射板３が配設さ
れており、上面には正面光源５と、正面光源５からの光
を反射するライト反射板６が正面光源５に近接して設け
られており、主偏光体４がライト反射板６の上から正面
光源５と対向する液晶パネル１の一辺上に向かって傾斜
させて配設されている。又、正面光源５からの光が観察
者の目に直接入らないようにするため、正面光源５の位
置は液晶パネル１の明視方向側に配設されている。
このような構成により、液晶パネル１の上面には、正面
光源５の直接照射光と、ライト反射板６からの反射光と
、主偏光体４からの反射光と、主偏光体４の上面からの
自然光や外・部光源による照射光との合成された光が照
射されて、均一な光量を得ることができるものであり、
又、正面光源５の光を有効に使用できる効果も有してい
る。
又、本実施例では主偏光体４を傾斜させて配設したが、
液晶パネル１とほぼ平行になるように設置してもよい。
〔発明の効果〕
以上述べたように本発明によれば正面光源の光を、液晶
パネル上面に主偏光体の反射を利用して照射することに
より、正面光源の光を効率よく、均一に液晶パネルに照
射するという効果を有する

Claims (1)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 液晶パネルと該液晶パネル上の上偏光体との間に正面光
    源を設置し、該光源の光を前記上偏光体の反射を利用し
    、前記液晶パネル全面に均一に拡散させることを特徴と
    する液晶表示装置。
