Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title wall finishing material which has excellent fast- drying characteristics and storage stability and is capable of producing an uneven pattern with an apparent softness, by mixing a binder consisting of an aqueous silica sol and an acrylic copolymer resin with a wall material having a specified curing agent incorporated therein. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous silica sol (a) which has a molar ratio of SiOx/M2O of 4 or more and contains 5-70wt% SiO2 is mixed with a styrene-acrylic copolymer resin (b) in a solids weight ratio of 1:0.5-3 to give a liquid binder (A). A curing agent (c) which is solid at ordinary temperatures and accelerates the condensation and dehydration reaction of component (a) (e.g., calcium silicate) is mixed with a solid component (d) comprising a particulate aggregate, a filler, a pigment, etc., to give a wall material (B). Then, component A is mixed with component B and, if necessary, water to give a trowelable wall finishing material.

Conventional technology This conventionally known wall finishing material for troweling is made by adding a water-soluble glue such as carboxymethyl cellulose or methyl cellulose and a synthetic resin emulsion to solid components such as granular aggregate, filler, and pigment. It is kneaded with water into a paste, and when it is applied with a trowel, the thickness of the coating film is approximately the same size as granular aggregate, and as it dries, it becomes viscous and difficult to remove with the trowel. It was extremely difficult to create patterns on its surface.

On the other hand, in the case of wall finishing materials for spraying, it is known to use water-based silica sol as a binder and also to use a synthetic resin emulsion in order to improve its water resistance, thereby achieving a thick coating finish. (Special Publication No. 53-34141, 54
(Refer to Publication No. 39414) However, when aqueous silica sol and synthetic resin emulsion are used together as a binder, and a curing agent is added thereto to promote the condensation and dehydration reaction of the aqueous silica sol, the pot life is extremely short, so each base material is prepared in advance. Since it was not possible to mix the materials in advance, it was necessary to bring a mixer to the work site and thoroughly stir and mix each base material each time.

Problems to be Solved by the Invention In view of the above circumstances, the inventors of the present invention have developed a method to form a thick coating film on a finished wall surface by troweling, and to express a three-dimensional pattern on the surface. We sought a wall material composition that simplifies the preparation of base materials on site and can be easily handled without using a mixer.

Solid solutions of calcium silicate, sodium calcium silicate, aluminum calcium silicate, and sodium calcium phosphate (hereinafter referred to as Typical examples include silicic acid solid solution), condensed aluminum phosphate, and sodium silicate. Furthermore, when mixing an aqueous silica sol and a synthetic resin emulsion, materials other than styrene-acrylic copolymer resin undergo a gelation reaction in a relatively short period of time, making them difficult to put into practical use. If the blending ratio of the styrene-acrylic copolymer resin to the aqueous silica sol exceeds a predetermined range, cracks will occur in the dried coating film, and if it is too small, the adhesive strength and water resistance of the coating film will be significantly lacking.

According to this invention, a solid state at room temperature is used as a hardening agent for the aqueous silica sol, and this is uniformly mixed with the solid wall material component in advance, so that the aqueous silica sol and the styrene-acrylic copolymer resin are mixed together in advance. By adding and wetting the liquid binder with additional water as necessary, it is possible to obtain a trowelable pasty formulation in which each base material is uniformly dispersed without special kneading. In the paint film troweled on the wall surface, the formation of siloxane bonds by the silanol group condensation dehydration reaction of the aqueous silica sol and the formation of a film by the drying of the styrene-acrylic copolymer resin proceed simultaneously, resulting in the phenomenon of so-called dilatancy.
After 10 to 15 minutes have passed after painting with a trowel, the appearance of the surface becomes hard, and when you apply force with a trowel or patterned metal fittings,
The coating film was pressed against wet sand, and water was sucked between the particles of each base material, making it possible to form patterns with large undulations without the problem of dissociation of siloxane bonds due to free water. The ridges of the uneven pattern become rounded as it dries, giving it a soft feel.
In addition, the time required for drying normally takes 3 to 4 days when water-soluble glue is used as the main binder, but when styrene-acrylic copolymer resin is used in place of silica sol, the so-called giratancy phenomenon can be avoided. A sufficient adhesive strength can be obtained within 7 to 8 hours.

Example 1 125 parts of aqueous silica/L/ (SiOz/M, O/L/ratio: 12, Sin2 min 30%) and 375 parts of various synthetic resin emulsions were mixed and the viscosity change of the mixed solution was investigated. As shown in Table 1, excellent storage stability was observed only when the styrene-acrylic copolymer resin was blended with the aqueous silica sol.

Table 2 Next, a binder was added to the wall material along with 2000 parts of water, and the binder solution was mixed lightly with a trowel in order to soak into the entire wall material. Approximately 1 wall material +r (coating thickness approximately 1,
3 m), and after about 10 minutes, a patterned metal fitting was brought into contact with the coated surface and pressed and pulled, and a large uneven pattern was revealed without producing free water. The troweled surface was completely dried in about 7 hours. The wall surface created in this way had an extremely soft feel with rounded ridge lines of the undulating pattern.
