Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain recording and reproducing by a same head by dislocating a magnetic path in a track transverse direction at the time of the recording and reproducing. CONSTITUTION:On a non-magnetic slider 1, magnetic paths 2 and 3 composed of a coil 4, 'Permalloy(R)', etc., are dislocated and formed in the track direction. At the time of writing, the electric current is supplied to a coil 4, recording is executed to a medium by a leaking magnetic flux from a gap 6, and at the time of reproduction, the light, in which the magnetizing rotation of a magnetic path 3 is linearly polarized by the magnetic field from the medium, is made incident upon a position 5, and the modulating light by the magnetizing rotation of the reflecting light or the transmitting light is detected. Thus, since the magnetic recording and the optical reproduction can be executed by the same head, a high S/N reproduction can be realized and the high recording surface density such as the high track density can be attained.

A coil 4 and a magnetic path 2.degree. 3 made of permalloy or the like are formed on a non-magnetic slider 1 by a thin film forming technique so as to be shifted in the track direction. At the time of writing, a current is passed through the coil, and the magnetic flux leaking from the gap 6 is used to record on the medium. During reproduction, light whose magnetization rotation in the magnetic path 3 is linearly polarized by the magnetic field from the medium is incident on 5, and reflected light or light modulated by the magnetization rotation of transmitted light is detected by a normal method. FIGS. 2(a) and 2(b) show an embodiment in the case of a single magnetic pole type head. (b) is a sectional view taken along the line A-A in (a). A single magnetic pole head for reading and a single magnetic pole for reading are separated and formed as thin films on a soft magnetic slider 11 made of ferrite or the like. During reproduction, linearly polarized light is incident on 15 as in FIG. Figure 3(a)(b)
) is an example of the optical regeneration method of the example of FIGS. 1 and 2. (b) is a sectional view of (a). In this case, a part of the slider 25' is made of a transparent material such as SjO*, and the end face 26 is made of aluminum or a dielectric total reflection film, which is fitted into the slider. The other end surface 27 is polished together with the slider 21 to form a thin film with the pattern shown in FIG. 1 or 2. During reproduction, linearly polarized light 27 passes through the magnetic film 23, is almost totally reflected at 26, and passes through the magnetic film 23 again.

This transmitted light is modulated according to the magnetization of the magnetic film 23, and the amount of this modulated light can be detected by a normal method. To explain using the configuration diagram in FIG. 4, polarized light from a laser 31 is guided through a half mirror 32 and a total reflection film 37 to a converter 37 (the embodiment shown in FIG. 3), and modulated light is transmitted through a total reflection film 37 to an analyzer 33. The detector 34 converts the signal into the Mi stream. Although not specified in the embodiment, the magnetic paths 3 and 13
It is possible to form a multilayer film in order to increase the magneto-optical conversion efficiency, but there is no limitation. Also, Example 1.2
The configuration is based on a format in which recording and playback are performed separately,
In the case of ductive write and (1) read, they offer advantages such as easy formation of thin films, and are not limited to optical reproduction, but are also effective as magnetic heads.
