Abstract

PURPOSE:To assure satisfactory printing performance with adjoining liquid inks not being mixed and not absorbing moisture in the air by providing the vehicle of each liquid ink consisting of water-insoluble oil, the oil of one vehicle having non-compatibility or retarded compatibility with the oil of the other vehicle. CONSTITUTION:A cloth ribbon base is a material which is plain-woven with nylon fiber of polyester fiber or cotton or silk fiber. Liquid ink impregnated into these bases are composed of a coloring agent and a vehicle. A coloring agent used is of single ingredient type, i.e. either of various organic pigments, inorganic pigments or dyes, or a mixture of more than one kinds of these materials. The vehicle is made up of liquid oil at normal temperatures with the addition of any proper surfactant, if required. The oil has a viscosity of 5-100 poises (value obtained by the Rodvisco viscosimeter) at normal temperature, and each different type of oil used is a monoingredient oil having non- compatible or retarded mutual compatible solubility.

``Prior art'' As a conventional multicolor ink ribbon, the Japanese Patent Publication No. 43-1487
There is one shown in No. 0. In the prior art, one of the liquid inks impregnated adjacently into a cloth ribbon base material is composed of hydrophilic polyhydric alcohols, linear polyethers, etc., and the other ink is impregnated with the other ink. The vehicle is made of oil and fat to prevent adjacent inks from mixing with each other.

[Means for Solving the Problems] In order to solve such problems, the present invention provides that the vehicles of each of the liquid inks are both made of water-insoluble oil, and the oil of one vehicle is the same as that of the other vehicle. It adopts a structure that is incompatible or poorly compatible with oil.

Theoretically, the compatibility and incompatibility of these oils is due to the difference in solubility parameter (sp), but since SP theory cannot always clearly clarify compatibility and incompatibility, it is difficult to carry out the present invention. At this time, two or more different oils were placed in the same beaker, mixed once, allowed to stand, and whether the mixed oils were separated or not was determined to determine whether they were compatible or incompatible. The above-mentioned relationship of compatibility and incompatibility is the result confirmed by such an experiment.
