A developer container containing developer and a developing roller provided opposite to the photoreceptor are provided, and a magnet roller having a main pole and a pumping pole is rotatably disposed within the developing roller. In a developing device, the dam is provided with a dam member that is movably disposed at a position opposite to the pumping pole during development, and this dam member is brought into sliding contact with the circumferential surface of the developing roller during non-development, and during development.
