Abstract

PURPOSE:A germicidal composition, containing 1-ethyl-1,4-dihydro-6,7- methylenedioxy-4-oxo-8-quinolinecar-boxylic acid and validamycin as an active constituent and effective against bacterial grain rot and sheath blight of rice plants. CONSTITUTION:A germicidal composition containing 1-ethyl-1,4-dihydro-6,7- methylenedioxy-4-oxo-8-quinolinecar-b-oxylic acid and validamycin at 1:0.2-1:10, preferably 1:0.5-1:5 weight ratio as an active constituent in an amount of 0.1-99.9wt%, preferably about 1-90wt% in a formulation. The incorporation of the two kinds of the compounds is preferred for not only improving the efficiency and economic advantage by the simultaneous control of two kinds of blights but also making it possible to reduce the amount of the respective components to be applied thereby, the composition is preferred for aspects of environmental pollution, safety, etc.

Rice is the most important crop in Japan's agriculture, and many fungicides have been developed that are effective in controlling blast and sheath blight, which are major rice cultivation diseases, and are expected to increase rice yields and profits. This greatly contributes to improving the quality of rice produced. However, rice cultivation diseases are not limited to the above-mentioned diseases, and controlling one disease can reduce yield due to other diseases.
Problems such as quality deterioration arise. Therefore, in order to control rice cultivation diseases, it is particularly desired to develop a broad-spectrum fungicide that can control a wide variety of diseases.

By the way, in recent years, with the spread of new rice cultivation techniques, especially cultivation techniques using mechanical transplantation, rice blight blight, a rice cultivation disease that was previously limited to a few regions, has become widespread throughout the country, causing yields to decline. Problems such as a significant decrease are occurring.

The inventors of the present invention were concerned with these points, and as a result of intensive research into the development of a fungicide that has a broad spectrum and is capable of controlling rice blight, which is extremely difficult to control, the above-mentioned book was developed. It was discovered that the composition of the invention is a powerful and versatile fungicidal composition that is not only highly effective against rice bacterium blight but also in controlling sheath blight. reached.

Compound A, which is one of the active ingredients of the composition of the present invention, is described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 57-48042. Although it is a systemic plant disease control agent, it has the disadvantage that it is less effective in controlling plant diseases caused by filamentous fungi.

The composition of the present invention contains two types of compounds with different activities as described above, but if it only exhibits a complementary effect of simultaneously controlling both rice blight and rice sheath blight. Surprisingly, it also exhibits an excellent synergistic effect against both diseases.

That is, it has a disease control effect so high that it cannot be expected from the disease control effect of each single component. The expression of a synergistic effect by mixing two types of compound components not only has efficiency and economic benefits by simultaneously controlling two types of diseases, but also reduces the application amount of each component. It is also preferable in terms of safety, such as environmental pollution.
