Conventionally, as shown in Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 49-22095, a steering wheel equipped with a shock absorption function has a spherical air cushion made of a transparent material attached to the top surface of the pad of the steering wheel body. A plurality of donut-shaped air cushions made of transparent material are stacked on the top, and the diameter increases in order to prevent a secondary collision if an impact is applied to the steering wheel, i.e. when the vehicle is running and collides with another vehicle. It has been proposed that if the driver's head hits the pad, the driver's head is received within a donut-shaped air cushion to protect the driver.

However, in this conventional type, the shock absorbing member is attached to the top of the pad of the steering wheel body, which actually hinders steering operation, has poor visibility, and makes it impossible to read the meters. Since there is no escape route for air in the cushion, a spring effect works after a collision, and energy absorption is not performed effectively.
It is also difficult to keep the internal air pressure constant.

The present invention aims to improve these points by absorbing the impact energy caused by a collision by the air compression resistance of the pads, and by absorbing it in stages by the buckling stress of the pads, thereby creating a safer steering wheel. A steering wheel body having a boss part, a spoke part and a grip part, and a shock absorbing pad provided on the steering wheel body,
The shock absorbing pad is characterized in that it has an annular bellows-shaped bent portion concentrically protruding inward on the steering wheel body side, and has air circulation holes formed therein.

When the driver's head or the like hits the upper surface 12 of the pad 11 as a secondary collision during a vehicle collision, the air inside the hollow pad 11 is compressed, and further air flows out from the air circulation hole 21. The primary energy is absorbed smoothly without any reaction, resulting in the state shown in Figure 5.

a and the top part 19b are the spoke core metal 3 and the pad 11
After contacting the upper surface portion 12, as shown in FIG. 6, the spoke core metal 3 is bent in the horizontal direction while pressing the bent portions 19 one after another, and these stepwise deformation operations are performed. This effectively absorbs energy in a secondary manner.

According to the present invention, when an impact force is applied to the pad due to a secondary collision of the driver due to a vehicle collision, the large impact force is primarily absorbed by the air compression resistance in the pad that is hollow and has air circulation holes. Furthermore, the impact can be effectively absorbed secondary by the gradual pushing action of the bending part due to the deformation of the pad, thus generating a reaction force that can cause damage to the driver. It can be used safely by sufficiently absorbing impact energy.

Further, the pad can be integrally formed into a hollow shape by blow molding, and can be easily and inexpensively manufactured.
