Conventionally, in this type of automatic mail sorting machine,
By calculating the difference between the number of pieces of mail that should be sorted into a given pocket and the number of pieces that are actually sorted into that pocket, it is possible to check whether there is any remaining, jammed, or missing mail. ing. However, with this method, if a transport abnormality occurs such as rear-end collision between two pieces of mail, the number of pieces of mail becomes unknown, so it is difficult to separate the pieces of mail into predetermined pockets. The number of mail pieces and the number of mail pieces that were actually sorted into the pocket differed due to the abnormality in conveyance, making it impossible to accurately check the remaining mail pieces.

Furthermore, when the conveyance control circuit 11 detects a conveyance abnormality, such as rear-end colliding of mail items, or double-picking, etc., the conveyance control circuit 11 performs control such that the mail items are accumulated in a predetermined pocket or the like. For example, the detectors S 7 , S 6 , S 5 , S 4 , S 3 , S 2 , S 1 , Sa 1 ,
......When two pieces of mail occur between San, those mails are accumulated in the pocket An, and the detectors S 2 and Sb 1
......When between Sbn, pocket Bn, detector S 3 ,
Sc 1 ......When between Scn, pocket Cn, detector
Pocket Dn when between S 4 , Sd 1 ......Sdn, pocket Dn when between S 5 , Se 1 ......Sen
En, detectors S 8 and S 7 are respectively accumulated in the accumulation section 8. In this case, the conveyance control circuit 11 controls the first storage circuit 1 corresponding to the pocket in which the mail in which the conveyance abnormality has occurred is accumulated.
3 is added by the number of sheets to be accumulated, and the contents of the first storage circuit 13 corresponding to the classification designation data of the mail item in which the transport abnormality has occurred are subtracted. That is, for example, if two pieces of mail are picked up due to a rear-end collision between two pieces of mail divided into pockets A5 and A7 at detector Sa2 ,
The transport control circuit 11 calculates the content of the address corresponding to the pocket An in the first memory circuit 13 by the counting circuit 1.
At the same time, the contents of the addresses corresponding to pockets A 5 and A 7 are read out to the counting circuit 12, and the contents are changed to “-1” and written to the same address. I'm starting to write. In addition, in the above collision detection method, for example, the detection time t 1 of the mail passing through the detector Sa 2 is determined by the detection time t 2 of the mail passing by the detector Sa 1 and the detector
The time is sufficiently longer than the time taken into account the dispersion of the conveyance time from Sa 1 to detector Sa 2 , and detector Sa 1 detects the subsequent mail, and detector Sa 2 detects the trailing edge of the previous mail. If not, the conveyance control circuit 11 detects that two pieces of mail have collided, that is, two pieces of mail have been taken.

The operation in such a configuration will be explained. For example, now, a piece of mail is conveyed from the supply section 1 to the conveyance path 2, and data corresponding to pocket A1 is read by the reading section 3 as classification designation data on the mail piece.
Assume that the signal is supplied to the transport control circuit 11. Then,
The transport control circuit 11 calculates the content of the address corresponding to pocket A 1 in the first memory circuit 13 by the counting circuit 1.
2, add "+1" to the contents, and write to the same address. Further, the conveyance control circuit 11 controls each gate in accordance with the signals from each detector, thereby causing the mail to be accumulated in the pocket A1 . At this time , the detectors S 1 .
...The contents of the addresses corresponding to S 8 and Sa 1 are read to the counting circuit 14, and the contents are incremented by "+1" and written to the same addresses. Also, the accumulation of mail in other pockets operates in the same way.

In such a state, if a rear-end collision occurs between mail pieces, for example, when two mail pieces classified into pocket A 5 and pocket A 7 collide at the detector Sa 2 , the conveyance control circuit 11 Rear-end collisions are detected and the collided mail items are accumulated in Pocket An. At this time, the transport control circuit 11 updates the content of the address corresponding to the pocket An in the first memory circuit 13 to one that increases by "+2", and
The contents of the addresses corresponding to A 5 and A 7 are updated with "-1". Further, a rear-end collision at another location operates in the same manner, and the contents of the first memory circuit 13 are updated.

The memory contents of the memory circuit 13 and the second memory circuit 15
The stored contents are printed out using a printer (not shown). That is, for the detector Sa 1 , the detector stored in the second storage circuit 15
The number of passages of Sa 1 and the planned number of classifications of pocket A 1 ...An stored in the first memory circuit 13 are printed out using a printer (not shown), and the same operation is performed for other detectors. By doing so,
Print out the correspondence between the number of passes and the planned number of classifications. As a result, when the number of passes through each detector does not match the expected number of sorted items, the operator determines that mail remains, jams, or disappears at the location where the numbers do not match.
In other words, if the number of passes through detectors Sa 5 to Sa 8 does not match the planned number of sorting, and the number of passes is one piece short, the mail that should have been sorted into pocket A 8 is detected. It is determined that it remains near Vessel Sa 5 . Further, remaining mail at other locations or remaining mail at multiple locations at the same time is determined in the same manner.

In the above embodiment, the number of passages passed by each detector corresponds to the number of scheduled classifications, and the operator prints out the correspondence to check whether there is any residue, but this is not limited to this. By comparing the number of passages and the planned number of classifications, it may be determined that there is a residual when the comparison results do not match, and the operator may be notified of the determination result. In addition, although the remaining postal items were only checked at the end of sorting, the number of times that postal items remained at each location may be recorded. In this case, it is effective for maintenance because it is only necessary to repair the parts that have failed many times.
