Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate writing of two-dimensional information produced in a CPU by installing luminous elements arranged in a matrix form facing the photoelectric screen of a space optical modulator tube and using an external signal to perform writing. CONSTITUTION:In a space optical modulator tube 3, a photoelectron image emitted by a photoelectric screen 4 on the inner surface of a fiber plate 41 is introduced into an electrooptical crystal 7, where optical changes are produced by accumulating the electron image, through a microchannel plate 5 to produce a charge pattern. In front of the fiber plate 41, a writing device 1 consisting of an LED matrix 11, a decoder 12 and a scanning circuit 13 is installed. Writing is performed by driving an LED group by decoding two-dimensional information 15 calculated in a CPU 2 in a decoder 12 and then scanning the information 15 by the clock signal 14. Due to the above structure, it is possible to easily convert the time series signal from the CPU 2 into coherent optical information.

There are two addressing methods for spatial light modulation tubes: an optical addressing method in which two-dimensional information is written directly by an optical system, and an electrical addressing method in which time-series electrical signals are written. The optical addressing method and the electrical addressing method are applicable to the spatial light modulation tube using an electron gun as the electron source.
