This was provided to prevent tape wear. As the coating material, hard metals or ceramics such as titanium oxide or titanium oxide-alumina composites are used. If the core is made of ferrite or the like, the latter is better from the viewpoint of wear resistance.

Formation methods include (a) plasma spraying, (b) vapor deposition, (c) sputtering, and (d) chemical vapor deposition or physical vapor deposition. (b) above;
(c) has a slow film formation rate and is produced in batches, and (d) requires a high temperature atmosphere of 400 to 500°C. The above method (a) is attracting attention as a method that has a fast formation rate and is the most mass-producible method. When a coating layer is provided by plasma spraying, especially when using a ferrite core, the adhesive strength between the coating and the core is weak, resulting in peeling or gaps. In this case, the tape is severely worn out and abrasion powder accumulates in the gap, worsening the frequency characteristics.

An object of the present invention is to provide a magnetic head that does not have the above-mentioned peeling of the coating layer or a gap with the core.

The present invention will be explained below using the embodiment shown in FIG. 5a and 5b in FIG. 2 are glass layers that serve as glue to increase the adhesion between the head core 1 inserted into the head case 3 as shown in the figure and the abrasion-resistant coating layer 4 formed on the tape facing surface of the head core 3. be. The glass layers 5a and 5b are formed by sputtering, chemical vapor deposition, or thermal spraying after the core shape is completed. The reason why vitreous materials act as glue in ceramic thermal spraying is that the high temperature and speed of the molten particles during plasma spraying melts the very surface of the glass and the sprayed particles penetrate into it. This glass layer only serves as glue, so it doesn't need to be thick. Therefore, 0.01 μm is sufficient. Further, since the glass itself has abrasion resistance against tape abrasion, the glass layer may be thick. When forming a glass layer by thermal spraying, a thickness of several tens of micrometers can sufficiently fulfill its role. The head element with the glass layer formed in this way is housed in a head case, and then a ceramic wear-resistant coating layer 4 is formed by thermal spraying.
Afterwards, the main head is completed by cylindrical polishing.

The surface of the head case 3 to which the plasma sprayed coating is applied is made rough by air blasting, etc., to improve the adhesion of the plasma sprayed coating, and the adhesive strength is 20 to 30 kg/cm 2 , which is a sufficient value for practical use. There is.

The adhesive strength of the plasma sprayed film on the ferrite core 1 was 5 kg/cm 2 or less, but by applying the above-mentioned surface treatment of the glass layers 5a and 5b,
The strength was 20Kg/cm 2 , and there were no practical problems with the magnetic head.

According to the above-described magnetic head of the present invention, the adhesive force between the core and the wear-resistant coating layer is increased, and even if the wear-resistant coating layer is made thicker, there is no peeling phenomenon during polishing of the coating layer, and the gap is reduced. This minimizes the amount of tape abrasion particles attached to this area, and almost eliminates deterioration of frequency characteristics.
